After An Accident

Being in an accident is a scary thing and can be quite traumatizing. We put together a list of things to do after an accident to help you through the process. You can bookmark this page or save a link to your mobile device for quick reference later in the unlikely event you need to use it later.

Step 1: Safety

First, make sure it is safe to exit the vehicle. If so, check on the others involved to make sure they are safe. If it is an emergency situation, please call 911 immediately.

Step 2: Photos

Next, you will want to get photos of everything:

Step 3: Police Report

If you haven't already, contact the local authorities about the accident so you can obtain a police reporting for insurance filings.

Step 4: Assessment / Towing

If your vehicle is no longer safe to drive, call us to arrange a tow: (303) 674-6911. Check for leaking fluids, wheel / axle stability, any loose panels or parts, etc.

If your vehicle is drivable, after the authorities have finished at the crash scene you can contact us at (303) 674-6911 to arrange to come in for a repair quote.

Step 5: Insurance

Contact your insurance company and inform them of the accident.

Please be aware, your insurance company may pressure you to use one of their approved repair facilities. Legally, you do NOT need to use them.

You are entitled to use the repair facility of your choice regardless of what your insurance company says and you will NOT be liable for additional expenses.

The reason insurance companies pressure you to use one of their 'approved' facilities is because they have worked out a deal with that repair shop for discounted rates and services... which could lead to sub-par repairs since that repair shop is not being paid a fair rate to repair your vehicle.

When you bring your vehicle to Kittrege Autobody Repairs, we work with your insurance company to make sure all repairs are covered and that you vehicle is repaired to the highest standards and is repaired to it's pre-accident condition, if not better! Never settle for a lower-quality repair facility.

At Kittredge Auto Rebuilders, we will negotiate for you to get the quality auto body repairs you need!

Step 6: Rental Car

If needed, we can arrange a rental car for you through the local Enterprise Rental Car office or you can call them directly at: (303) 697-7323 or (303) 973-7877. It is easier to call the local offices than to call the national 800 number.

Do Not Get Taken Advantage of by Insurance Companies

You DO NOT have to use the auto repair facility that your insurance company recommends.

Insurance companies will try to steer you to one of their 'approved' facilities. This is solely because they have worked out special discounted rates with those facilities so they don't have to pay as much for your vehicle repairs.

In the end - you end up paying the price with subpar repairs, parts, warranties, and more.

You have the legal right to choose whatever repair facility you want - regardless of what your insurance company says.

What is Insurance Steering?

'Insurance Steering' is the term used to describe the process where an insurance company uses influence, pressure, or some other deceptive method (such as saying you have to use one of their 'approved' auto repair shops) to push you into using the auto body repair shop or services of their choosing to repair your car.

Your insurance company may tell you that you must take your car to a specific location for the estimate or repairs, usually that facility is one of their 'approved' shops. This is not an ethical business process.

Once there for an estimate, you can be hustled into having your vehicle repairs or services done there. Often, you will be promised instant priority placement, immediate rental car availability, lifetime guarantee and more, in order to influence you into a contract for repairs.

What a lot of people don't know is that their insurance policy may allow for use of junkyard parts and aftermarket parts in an effort to save on costs. Kittredge Auto Rebuilders ensures that every part we use meets our own high quality standards. We refuse to settle and use low quality parts, even when pressured by insurance companies.

Most people find out, after the fact, that they had the right to use the repair shop of their choice. Don't let your insurance company pressue you into choosing a repair shop that you're not comfortable with - Kittredge Auto Rebuilders.
